If your pediatric patient would benefit from our services, please guide them to call 8-1-1 and ask to speak with a registered dietitian. To support optimal nutrition care, our registered dietitians may refer a client to the Pediatric Nutrition Services team.
Registered dietitians at HealthLink BC offer telephone, email and web-based services to help meet the food and nutrition information, education and counselling needs of B.C. residents and health professionals.
When can I contact a registered dietitian?
Wherever you live in British Columbia, we are just a phone call or click away and ready to help. Our registered dietitians are available Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm Pacific Time.
How do I contact a registered dietitian?
For information and advice on healthy eating or nutrition, you can call, email or search for information on our website.
- Call 8-1-1 (or 7-1-1 for the hearing impaired) and ask to speak to a registered dietitian. Translation services are available in over 160 languages.
- Click on Email a HealthLinkBC Dietitian to ask a short food or nutrition question.

What services do registered dietitians at HealthLink BC provide by telephone?
We offer a variety of services by telephone to help individuals and families in British Columbia make healthy eating, food and nutrition choices. Our services are available for all age groups. A referral from your health care provider is not required.
Our dietitians are available to provide information, education and counselling support, whether you have a food and nutrition question or need help managing a health condition. They can help by answering a range of questions about foods, nutrients, supplements, food safety and food security. They can also provide individualized nutrition care plans to help with health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, cancer, gastrointestinal conditions and food allergies.
Oncology Nutrition Service
A team of dietitians is available to clients who have received cancer treatment. To connect with a dietitian for oncology nutrition care, call 8-1-1 and ask to be transferred to a registered dietitian. Cancer care patients can also ask their health care provider to refer them to the HealthLink BC Oncology Nutrition Service.
Pediatric Nutrition Services
Pediatric Nutrition Services dietitians are available to support the nutritional well-being of infants, children and youth, including children with special health needs. They can help with concerns such as feeding problems, food allergy, failure to thrive, and vitamin and mineral supplementation.
The HealthLink BC Eating and Activity Program for Kids
This program offers telephone nutrition and physical activity counselling for children, youth and their families. Counselling sessions provide support for making behaviour changes that promote healthy growth, wellbeing and quality of life. How do I get service in another language?
After dialing 8-1-1, you will be connected with an English-speaking health service navigator. To get service in another language, simply state the language you are looking for (example, say “Punjabi”), and an interpreter will join the call.
Translation services are available in over 160 languages.
Can you provide health information or advice by email?
If you have a short food or nutrition question, you can email your question by clicking on Email a HealthLinkBC Dietitian.
Can I use an internet calling service provider to call HealthLink BC?
Yes. However, you cannot access 8-1-1 by dialing 8-1-1 on web-enabled telephone services such as Skype or Google Talk. Instead, please dial 604 215-8110.
